NEW RULE:

If you have to make your own bed in a hostel I've discovered that placing the flat sheet on first followed by the fitted sheet with the elastic ends tucked at the foot of the mattress resembles a spacious sleeping bag and keeps the bed clothes from getting all tangled around your legs through the night. It's a nice alternative from a blanket, too, as its light and snugs at the top without becoming too warm/heavy before morning.
